YES. I think his contract is a year shorter and was also front-loaded. Meaning it gets smaller every year. And hey, he and Aaron Brookes can be our scoring threats next season.

Slight tangent - but Childress is so disappointing. I think Gentry deserves a good portion of the blame there too. I watch him on offense and he literally stands in the corner and waits for the ball to be swung to him. He has excellent slashing ability, but we never seem to use it. At the same time, what the hell happened to his game? He looked so much better with Atlanta.
I agree that Childress is a disappointment. I never agreed with signing him because of how many SF's we had, but I did think he was a player. When did he stop playing basketball?!
But Batum is not so much better than Josh was on the Hawks. I see both as athletes who do a lot of little things but don't create scoring. And Batum's numbers are very comparable to Atlanta-Josh's.

Williams might benefit playing with Nash (I know that sounds like a broken record) since Joe and Josh dominate the ball. The talent seemingly is there, it just seems he sorta drifts around on the perimeter of the action with the Hawks.
Childress is a decent player with a bad fit in Phoenix. And signing him did no favors for Dragic; as a result of the number of wing players, the Suns converted Dudley to a guard and took away the minutes Dragic thought he was going to get after Barbosa was traded. Just a bad signing from several standpoints; nobody thought that one through.

I don't want Marvin Williams. He's as mediocre as they come and he's paid too much. We can get a player who's not quite as good but with a similar skill-set at the minimum any time we want.

I would only trade Childress for Williams. I would need some other asset to move Frye for him. I think the Suns could do better than Marvin Williams if they're looking to move Frye.

I would trade Frye/Childress for Hinrich/Williams. If need be I would throw in Lopez, and ask for our second rounder back.

Edit: I was thinking Warrick/Childress for some reason when I read the post. What do we do if we give up both Frye and Lopez? Who plays behind Gortat and what happens if Gortat gets hurt (heaven forbid).

Amen to that. I would rather have Frye or Warrick than Williams. He is less productive with more playing time. Worse yet, he thinks he is better than he is. Atlanta fans cannot wait to dump him. They look at him like we look at Childress.
No thanks.

So would I. As for who would supposed holes if Frye and Lopez are gone, I wouldn't worry too much.
What Lopez is giving us can be replaced with any scrub from the D-League. As for Frye, Markieff would take some of his minutes, and the rest would go to Warrick and Williams.
Yeah, not ideal but we'd get a real backup pg, dump our worst contract and add a wild card in Williams, who would have the chance to show what he is made of here.

Re: Suns News: 2/13/12 - 2/19/12
I guess maybe I'm in the minority here, but I actually kind of like Channing Frye. He's inconsistent, but there have been plenty of games where I felt like he gave us a lift and really helped us pull away and win. I know he makes a bit too much money, but I don't see what is the point of just getting rid of him for somebody who doesn't have any above-average NBA skills like Marvin Williams, or just dumping Frye for cap space.
I wouldn't mind trading Childress to the Hawks for Williams or similar pieces, if we strike out on the whole "amnesty him and then go after max free agents" route. And I do like Kirk Hinrich; I'd enjoy seeing him in a Suns uniform.

I like Frye, too. But I would trade him for a different asset if I could. Cap space, draft pick.

Re: Suns News: 2/13/12 - 2/19/12
I like Frye also, but he's expendable in the right deal. You can find a stretch 4 on the cheap and use him in spots. I don't want to say Frye isn't a rotational player, you just can't rely on him every night to help you win games because he's a streak shooter.

Re: Suns News: 2/13/12 - 2/19/12
Having your starting power forward shoot 40% from the field is not a recipe for success. I don't think Frye is that much better than Anthony Tolliver and Tolliver's contract is 1/3 of Frye's.

Tolliver is actually a better defender.

Who cares?
And this isn't about Marvin Williams ability. Personally, I think he's mediocre. But, I do see untapped potential, and I think he would benefit from being on a Suns team that lacks a legitimate scoring threat. However, the only reason to do the deal is to get Hinrich's expiring contract, and swap Childress for Williams, who has a shorter contract.

You're right, but I'm not sure how I feel about a front court rotation of just Morris, M. Williams, and Gortat.

I'm not really concerned with our rotation over a 30 game span. The main goal would be to try put Williams in a position to breakout. Give him touches and minutes and hope he improves to the point that he becomes a commodity. Then try to flip him. Do the same with Warrick. Screw the defense an rebounding, just put him in a position to put up stats that look good, and then try to deal him. Sign some D-Leaguers or FA vets (Dan Gadzuric?) to fill out the roster for the rest of the season.

especially when that PF can't defend and doesn't do it every night on the boards either.
and i am not to worried about the roster situation for the rest of this season, they aren't going anywhere and they need to start making deals to help them in the future.

I really like the plan you have INF. Not that you need my affirmation, but I find it very sound. I wish the Suns could do it, just don't believe it would happen.

It has been a crazy year. I think the last time I slept it was 2011. I can count on Buster's left hand how many Suns games I have actually seen from start to finish, and the number of games I have even seen a part of on his right...

Well, I hope it's a good kind of crazy. You're not missing much this year Suns-wise. A few moments of fun and glory here and there but not nearly as much as in previous years. We're definitely in that in between stage right now.

Thanks for the update. I read this site when I can, but haven't read a game day thread yet. I have a ton of unread threads here.
The kind of crazy isn't good, but is full of opportunities.
