i grew up listening to Vin Scully do dodgers games every evening on KTAR, so i got pretty spoiled. i'm a huge Al McCoy fan too, although he's always been a bit of a homer. You can just tell the guys who cut their teeth doing games on radio (Scully, Bob Costas, Al, Chick Hearn, Skip Caray) because they had a real mastery of giving you just the right details.
The problem with guys like Leander is that they just don't have the experience 'painting the picture' for the fans, so they resort to hyperbole and catch phrases to stand out from the crowd.
Yep. With Al, you don't even have to see the game to picture it perfectly. With Leander, I swear I know what is going on best when he isn't speaking.
