Could we actually, gasp, sweep this road trip?
Suns haven't been playing great lately, but they seem to be doing what they gotta do to win. And we should win this one.
Indy showed that the Suns never really blow anybody out. But I would expect us to take this one by 7-10 points.

Our bench should be well rested for tonight. Maybe Boris "The Tin Man" Diaw will find his heart and I sure hope all is right w/ Barbs.
In my opinion Calderon is a better point for Toronto than TJ when they are healthy. Calderon is the better playmaker and has superior field vision, enabling him to be a better setup man for Bosh, Bargnani and company. TJ is the better one on one player, great at penetrating and thereby opening holes for others like Moon or Parker to slash to the basket.

Injuries can make it tough to battle in the post. Phoenix Suns star Amare Stoudemire needed a few weeks to get into a grove, and now Chris Bosh is missing games for the Toronto Raptors for the first time this season.
With Stoudemire coming off his most dominant performance since offseason knee surgery, the Suns look to win their seventh straight against the undermanned Raptors when the teams meet for the first time this season Wednesday night.
Stoudemire has settled down after struggling in the first week of the season, missing three games in that stretch after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Oct. 2. He's coming off his best outing since then, scoring a season-high 42 points and matching a season best with 13 rebounds to lead Phoenix (14-4) to a 121-117 win over Indiana on Tuesday night.
"I felt real good, felt strong," he said. "I just played my game. I took whatever the defense gave me, whether it was a jump shot or an easy layup or two. I just played my style of game."
The All-Star center is averaging 26.7 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 59.2 percent from the floor in his last six games, and has a double-double in a season-best three straight contests. The Suns are averaging 111.2 points in winning 11 of their last 13 games.
Pacific Division-leading Phoenix has posted 112.3 points per game en route to winning its last six against Toronto (10-8). The Raptors haven't beaten the Suns since a 101-94 victory at Phoenix on Feb. 10, 2004.
"If we beat them it will be because we played our game," Raptors guard Carlos Delfino told the team's official Web site. "Their game is running up the court all the time, being unselfish, passing the ball, but also not taking too much care of the ball. They play the risk game."
Toronto couldn't beat Phoenix when healthy, and now it's missing Bosh (groin) and Andrea Bargnani (knee) in the frontcourt. This will be the fourth straight game the Raptors will play without Bosh, who is averaging a team-best 18.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, but they have gone 2-1 without their franchise player so far.
Bargnani, the top overall pick in the 2006 draft, will miss his second straight game. The 6-foot-10 forward is averaging 11.9 points while shooting 45.2 percent from 3-point range.
The Raptors, however, will be getting slightly healthier with point guard T.J. Ford returning after missing a 98-79 win over Charlotte on Monday night. Ford has played in just two of Toronto's last seven games after getting a stinger in his left arm in a Nov. 20 collision with Dallas' Josh Howard.
Delfino and Kris Humphries both scored 17 points, and Joey Graham added 13 as the Raptors beat the Bobcats without Bosh, Bargnani and Ford.
Toronto has won four straight at home after losing four of its previous six there. Phoenix, meanwhile, is 2-0 during its current five-game stretch on the road, where it is 8-2 on the season.
This will be two-time league MVP Steve Nash's lone game this season in his native Canada. Nash had 18 points and 17 assists on Tuesday, and leads the league with 11.4 assists per game.

My prediction - The Suns win by 4 but Humphries and other "hustle" players look MUCH better than they really are - and I like Humphries. I want to the Suns to get, at some point, a mediocre but HUSTLE player on the front line.
PS - Not sure how I ever got that sig line.......

To win this one, the Suns need to stay home on the Raptors above the 3 point line - they average 43.7% from three point range, and have 2 guys who shoot better than 50%...

i pieced that together in my head and it was the best image of Boris I've had in the last year. I heard a funny story from my friends down at UA in October when the Suns were there. My ex-gf's hallmate hooked up with Boris when he was in Tucson and continued the relationship in Phoenix. He has a badass house apparently and she has some pictures to cherish. What a frenchman.
Anyways, anyone else watching on Sopcast? I'm getting "channel offline" right now.
Do Calderon and Ford ever play together?
Mostly not, Calderon usually spells the starting TJ Ford. Torontos style of play usually changes when they sub between eachother. Against a team like the Suns with no big shooting guard it could be an interesting idea to use Calderon as a spot up shooter and a second ballhandler/playmaker on the court. Ive seen some of Torontos games at the beginning of the Season due to their relatively early starting time (they had some 9pm and 1am CET starting times) and they hadnt set into their roles yet.
DEFENSE............. please!!!

Great Half by Barbosa. 22pts...he was having his way with the Raps.
Good to see that Mike D. Realized the starters logged heavy minutes last night. Skinner,LB and Diaw have reallt responded. I thought maybe we'd see a 9th guy possibly another Pike showing since its a back to back and Marion and Leo both picked up 2 fouls in the 1st quarter but he kept it with 8.
Let's come out in the 3rd with a nice strong Push and get some distance....

You are correct. Shawn was a +6 for the game.

you have to go back yo 04-05 to look into Grant Hill versus the spurs... he put up 15.5 points in those two games on 50% shooting.

I am really proud of Amare's quote - "Shawn did a great job rebounding tonight, Leandro did a great job of shooting, Steve did a great job of distributing. It was an all-around game for us and we got the win."
Of the three, Shawn probably performed the least but Amare made it a point to give Shawn his props first. He also had two sweet dishes to Shawn yesterday. Got to love it.

What a great win. There's really not anything to complain about whatsoever. I was very excited by Diaw's play; he had a new fire to him, especially in the first half when he had a dunk and a few strong moves to the hoop. The Toronto announcers said that our coaching staff talked to him before the game and told him we needed that from him. Maybe it paid off. Now put that talk into an endless loop on the F'er's iPod.
I was really glad to see Coach empty the bench. It may not seem like much, but those 3-4 minutes add up over the course of the year. Yes, the bench gives back some of the lead, but you have to trust them a little and give them a chance to play. The minutes were not very numerous or meaningful, but it's about all I can expect at this point.
Man, this team is scary good when everything is clicking.

When Boris plays the way he did, I think hes defintiely one of the tougher guys to guard in the league because of his array of moves inside and out. If we can get that kind of play everynight, we're basically unstoppable. But hes shown these flashes before. Its about consistancy now. And i have no problem with him working in the post and passing out to Amare at the top of the key for a jumper. I saw that play once last night but Amare forced the drive in the lane and got the foul (luckily, really). But Amare would be much better served taking and hitting that 16ft jumper. Better spacing and it makes the defender come out to guard him which will help later on. Im imagining that kind of scenario working against the Spurs. Most likely, if it was the playoffs against the spurs, Amare wouldnt have gotten that foul call so its something to keep in mind.

I want to give Amare props for not picking up a foul last night. He wasn't dominant in the way that he has been offensively, but the no fouls is an extraordinarily important stat for, um...STAT.
Nice to see Boris showing a little fire. The Suns' offense seems to really be coming together and clicking. That is encouraging. We should be putting up points like this. Also very nice to see Barbosa's shot returning.

I can second that, my wife would kill me if i try to watch every game live while ignoring the kids. Tivo rules! I usually watch games in peace at around 8:30pm. Otherwise Im catching hell from the wife and kids...As upset as we all were a week or so ago, it seems this team seems to be improving in every aspect of the game. Amare is looking more explosive(as expected with recent scope) Diaw is getting a little less Doris -like, and Raja and Barbs are coming on. Big games I think we need for confidence and momentum are Lakers on Christmas and obviously Spurs on 15th...They better play Duncan also, we want no excuses. Funny how good we look when clicking. Even so, it looks like this team can still get better, and we will need to along with some good luck if we are to make a finals run.

Same here. The only time I really catch the very beginning of a game is the TNT late ones. Too much bedtime chaos with the kid.
DVR lagging the game for 30 min is perfect.
The upside to watching live is the option of turning down Leander and putting Al on the radio :)

The only issue I have watching the game via delay-DVR, are phone calls from friends and mostly family asking me about the game while they are watching live. My sister is notorious for ruining games for me. I won't answer the phone anymore while I am watching the Suns.
Lord, ain't it the truth. I cannot think of any commercials I hate more than Wendy's current run... 'cept if they started using Tom Leander in them. That'd be worse.
Please not give them any ideas.

When Boris plays the way he did, I think hes defintiely one of the tougher guys to guard in the league because of his array of moves inside and out. If we can get that kind of play everynight, we're basically unstoppable.
That's what I've been saying. If the Suns get the 05-06 Boris back, it's over the guy. That player is just too much for anyone to handle. Throw Bruce Bowen, Josh Howard, whoever you can come up with: IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER. Not that he'll drop 50 on you, but he's going to make plays, scoring or passing, that you just can't prevent. The Suns are a championship-FAVORITE with that player.
Unfortunately, I just don't think that will happen. As Shel said, it is about consistency, and I don't think we'll ever get that from Boris.

The problem is that Boris produces estrogen. He'll never have the fire or desire to be a good/great player. Too much being content. I hope he proves me wrong, but I really don't think he'll ever consistently "bring it". Damn shame.

It is a shame, because watching him man-up against the Lakers and Mavs in the playoffs was a thing of beauty.

Yep, for the playoffs, I try to time it so that at the end of the game, I'm watching live.

Ha! I have the exact same problem with my Dad. I also stopped answering the phone when he calls on game nights. The problem is, I usually know they won if he calls.
I miss the My45 spots with Gina. :-(

Gotta miss Johnny Cash.
