On 620 Ktar Gambo and Ash they said that Thursday 29th 2007 at 5:20 P.M there will be a Big Suns Anouncment! Does anyone have any ideas on what this announcment might be ? I just hope the announncment doesn't turn out to be lame.
This posted over at espn message boards. Can anyone confirm Gambo and Ash have said that there will be an announcement today? If true, the timing of Tucker to the D-league may indicate a trade announcement...
The rumor (and that's all it is now) at espn is there S&T involving Diaw, Varejao, and Devin Brown.
I normally wouldn't post rumor crap, but if Gambo and Ash have announced that something big will be disclosed I'd take it as pretty certain something really is up.

that trade kinda blows IMO
Diaw, even with his lackluster attitude is a way better play then Varajao and i would think the suns could get more back with him then Devin Brown.

oooo! i'll miss boris but anderson would be such a killer spark off the bench. no more bitching at boris to be aggressive. what about ball movement w/o him? what does verejao bring besides hustle? does he get in passing lanes and steal balls? blocks? rebounds? gonna have to look him up and see. my stomach is all a-twitter just thinking about it. we wanted noah and verejao is that type of player. he wants what diaw makes and the cavs need someone who can distribute the ball. interesting. can't wait to see what happens.

like.. Shannon Brown, Cedric Simmons, or Demetrius Nichols would be better then Devin Brown. but still paired up w/Andy its not worth Diaw... considering that Andy, is REFUSING to play for the cav's.. the suns need to get back something a bit more for Diaw i would think.

WORMWOOD! how careless of you! while there is an announcement, there is no info that there is a trade. it could just as easily be a marion extension. but espn message board rumors? when you said "the rumor at espn," i'm thinking stein or something. i can't believe you even mentioned a possible trade. got me all excited, too. for shame.

Sorry dude, thought I made it clear. My bad if I wasn't.
The trade part is a rumor. Right now we just want confirmation that Gambo and Ash have said there will be a big announcement today at 5:20.

I have a hard time believing it is something interesting. I heard the "advertisement" this morning while driving to work... tune in at 5:20 for some big suns news and I'll be talking about the suns at 8:20. If it was anything wouldn't they be advertising a press conference or something?

or Maybe its Marion+Bell+ ATL pick to LA for Kobe ?
LazarusLong
11-29-2007, 01:55 PM
Actually, Marion is the one Sun who's been playing well consistently, with a minor blip. Even the nights his offense is spare, he's been rebounding and/or playing D.

11-29-2007, 01:56 PM
honestly, i'd rather trade amare+bell+pick for kobe+turiaf.

i'm calling it now. they're giving away tickets to a game. haha
Phoenix219
11-29-2007, 01:58 PM
that would give us Nash/Kobe/Hill/Marion/Diaw(or Skinner) with Barbs, Turiaf and Diaw/Skinner off the bench, i think i could deal with that...
would we be having kobe re-learn to play run and gun or would we restructure around him?
not that i actually want kobe at all...
i wish the amare/garnett trade had gone down more than anything...

This is too good. Most here claim that Diaw sucks. A rumor about trading him and it's "NO! We can get more than that for him!". I love it.

of course i'd rather do Amare+Banks+Pick for Kobe+Turiaf and end up with more 3 point shooters (Barbs, Bell, Kobe) :)

First, I don't think anyone here has said Diaw sucks. Often, his passivity does. But still, I don't like a deal where the other team is in a blind alley with his player and we can't even get the upper hand.
The current Diaw is very overpaid at $9M, but Varejao had his career season at 7ppg 7rpg. I don't think he's worth more than the full MLE, and if he'd be willing to play for that, he'd be a Cav by now, so we'd probably have to overpay for him. In that context, I'd rather overpay Diaw (huge insurance in case of Amare injury).
So if a sign and trade involving Diaw and Andy was to happen, I'd want at least a 1stR or getting rid of Banks (Newble's expiring contract should have to be involved). If the Cavs don't accept it, they can keep negotiating with Fegan.

Skiles has burnt more bridges than Sherman on his way to Atlanta.
He's toast.
If you think Diaw is passive here, he would absolutely disappear with a player that dominates the ball like LeBron.
Can anyone confirm that even an announcement is forthcoming? I see nothing on suns.com, nba.com, or espn.com.

The Suns played well about the the same length of time under Skiles as the Bulls. Seem like a pattern is forming.

As nothing more comes out, I tend to agree. Usually someone else in the local media would have caught a sniff of what might be going down. Annoys me when the media resorts to teasers though....

No idea what this could be. If it was a trade we would have already known about it. KTAR already has sole broadcast rights with the team so it isn't an announcement of a partnership. The interesting thing is that there is not a note on the team's website. For anyone that heard Gambo did he say "huge" announcement and did he say it seriously or jokingly?
If there is any legitimacy to this rumor, I would rather take on Ira Newble and pay Varejao under $6M per year, which would free about $3M to $3.5M in the offseason with Newble's expiring contract. I don't see how trading Boris at $9M a year straight up for Varejao at $8M a year really helps us.
Then again, I didn't see last night's game, and Boris was minus-18 on the court . . . maybe we're in a bigger hurry to get rid of him than I thought.
WestCoastBias
11-29-2007, 03:42 PM
Varejao would be a base year compensation player meaning they would have to give us back more to just match diaw because varejao only counts for half.
Boris is BYC as well, IINM.

If you think Diaw is passive here, he would absolutely disappear with a player that dominates the ball like LeBron.
See i dont think so. I think his playmaking would take a huge load off of James. They could run the screen and roll just like Boris and Shawn do, or work Boris in the post with Z up high for some halfcourt offense. I swear, last night i was thinknig of the exact scenario of Boris for Var and Devin Brown. Thing is, Boris is a BYC player so the nubmers get tricky. And while i love Varejao, hes not worth more than the MLE, tho i'd give him 6-7 to start because i think he will be a double-double guy with starters minutes.
I dont think theres a trade tho. Like someone else said, probably some kind of giveaway.

Suns, Sports 620 KTAR Extend Radio Agreement
Posted: Nov 29 2007 6:46PM
Posted: Nov. 29, 2007
The Phoenix Suns and Sports 620 KTAR have signed a new five-year contract that will continue KTAR’s position as the Suns flagship radio station through the 2011-12 season, the team and the station announced today.
The new agreement replaces the existing deal that is set to expire at the end of the current season, and adds four additional seasons of Suns basketball to the station’s programming. At the end of the new agreement, KTAR will have broadcast Suns basketball for 36 consecutive seasons beginning in 1976.
“A year into their format as an all-sports station, Sports 620 KTAR has established itself as the must-listen destination for listeners interested in sports in the Valley,” said Rick Welts, President and COO, Phoenix Suns. “We couldn’t imagine Suns radio broadcasts not being a part of KTAR in the future and we are thrilled to be continuing what has been a model relationship.”
“This is a great day for KTAR and for the sports fans in the Valley. While we are proud of the long history that the Suns and KTAR have enjoyed, we are even more excited about the future,” said Erik Hellum, Vice President and Market Manager, KTAR and Bonneville Radio Phoenix. “The Suns are the ‘best in class’ in the NBA, both on and off the court, and this strong partnership continues to deliver exciting play-by-play action to our listeners and consistent results for our clients.”
The agreement continues the historic deal structure between the two organizations, with the Suns continuing to produce all games and sell all advertising inventory during their pre-game, game, and post-game shows. KTAR will continue to produce and sell shows to air prior to the Suns pre-game and at the conclusion of the Suns post-game show, and will air other programs including weekly shows featuring Suns Head Coach and Executive VP of Basketball Operations, Mike D’Antoni and President of Basketball Operations and General Manager, Steve Kerr.
“The willingness of Erik Hellum, Ryan Hatch and KTAR’s marketing and promotion staff to partner with the Suns in all kinds of programs not only promote the station and our team but also benefit our community,” added Welts.
Suns broadcasts on Sports 620 KTAR feature legendary play-by-play broadcaster Al McCoy who was honored this summer both as recipient of the Curt Gowdy Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and by having the press facilities in US Airways Center dedicated as the Al McCoy Media Center, through a partnership between the Suns and KTAR. Former Sun Tim Kempton joins McCoy as color analyst on Suns broadcasts.
All Suns preseason, regular season and playoff games are part of the agreement. Because there will occasionally be a conflict between Suns and Diamondbacks games, the station and the two teams worked out an arrangement to utilize Sports 620 KTAR’s sister station, News/Talk 92.3 KTAR-FM, under certain circumstances to make sure the games of both teams will always be available live to listeners.
About KTAR
KTAR was Arizona’s first radio station and continues to have the state’s largest radio audience. The station was founded more than 80 years ago, and it has been an indelible part of the Arizona landscape ever since. KTAR is considered a trusted source for local, national, business and breaking news, along with traffic and weather. In January 2007, KTAR expanded to two channels as News 92.3 KTAR-FM and Sports 620 KTAR-AM. Sports 620 KTAR is all sports, all of the time; serving as the radio home of the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks, as well as the Phoenix Suns and Arizona State University.
